Local tips for Boston
MBTA match day train is the only reliable option
The MBTA runs special nonstop event trains from South Station in Boston directly to Foxboro Station, adjacent to Gillette Stadium. The journey takes about 55 minutes. Tickets cost around $80 and must be purchased in advance — they sell out. Match day tickets are separate from regular commuter rail tickets.
Boston Stadium Express bus — $95 round trip
The official Boston Stadium Express bus picks up from over 20 hotel locations across Greater Boston and Logan Airport. Costs $95 round trip, must be booked in advance. Drops off within 10 minutes walk of the stadium. Good alternative if you are not near South Station.
Avoid driving — Route 1 gets very congested
Route 1 is the only road to the stadium and gets severely congested on match days. Local roads around the stadium are blocked. If you must drive, book parking in advance through Gillette Stadium. Lots open 4 hours before matches.
Boston's food scene is world class
Lobster rolls, clam chowder and seafood are unmissable. Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall are tourist-friendly options. For a more authentic experience try Neptune Oyster in the North End or Yankee Lobster at the Seaport. The Italian restaurants of the North End are also exceptional.
Fan Festival at City Hall Plaza
The official FIFA Fan Festival is at Boston City Hall Plaza in the heart of downtown. Free entry, live match broadcasts, food and entertainment throughout the tournament. A second fan zone activation is planned in nearby Providence, Rhode Island.
Tip 18-20% and budget carefully
Boston is one of the more expensive US cities. Budget $80-120 per day for food and transport. Tipping 18-20% is expected at restaurants and bars. The MBTA subway (the T) is the most affordable way to get around the city itself.
