Canada's home opener on June 12 is the most in-demand match in Toronto. Hotels near Exhibition Place sold fast. Downtown hotels are still your best bet for availability.
Local tips for Toronto
TTC streetcar 509 or 511 is easiest to the stadium
From downtown hotels take the 509 Harbourfront or 511 Bathurst streetcar directly to Exhibition Loop, steps from BMO Field. Journey is around 12 minutes from downtown. Buy a Presto card or pay by contactless card.
GO Transit to Exhibition Station
From Union Station take GO Transit Lakeshore line to Exhibition GO Station, directly adjacent to the stadium and Fort York Fan Festival. Very convenient if staying near Union Station.
UP Express from the airport to downtown
Toronto Pearson Airport to Union Station in 28 minutes via the UP Express. Buy tickets on the UP Express app. Much faster and cheaper than taxi or rideshare from the airport.
No US visa needed for Toronto only
If you are only attending matches in Toronto and Vancouver you do not need a US visa. Most international visitors need a Canadian eTA or visitor visa. Check our Visa Guide for your passport requirements. This is a major advantage of Toronto over the US host cities.
Warm but not extreme
Toronto in June is warm at around 20-26°C. Much more comfortable than the US southern cities. BMO Field is an open air stadium. Light layers for evening matches as it cools down after sunset.
Fan Festival at Fort York and The Bentway
The official FIFA Fan Festival runs at Fort York National Historic Site and The Bentway adjacent to Exhibition Place, a short walk from BMO Field. Free admission with advance registration. Live match broadcasts, food, music and cultural events throughout the tournament.

CAD is worth less than USD so prices feel more affordable for many international visitors. Tipping 15-20% is standard at restaurants. Contactless payment is accepted almost everywhere.

Canada has no special World Cup visa. Entry requirements depend on your nationality. You need either an eTA or a visitor visa — not both.
eTA — CAD $7 (most visitors)
UK, EU, Australia, Japan, UAE, Qatar and many others. Apply online at canada.ca. Usually approved in minutes. Required for air travel only.
Visitor visa required
India, China, Pakistan, Nigeria and others. Apply through IRCC online portal. Allow 2-8 weeks processing time. Apply early.
Getting to Toronto
Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is the main hub, 28 minutes from downtown via UP Express. Billy Bishop Airport (YTZ) handles some domestic routes.

From downtown direct to Exhibition Loop at the stadium. 12 minutes. Pay by Presto card or contactless.
GO Transit to Exhibition Station
